Welcome back old friends

Welcome back old friends

I ran across quite the unique item listed on eBay today and it perfectly coincided with the return of many of the shows that I have been missing for the past few months. This Writers Guild strike sign is being auctioned off to raise money for the Hilltop Nursery School Child & Family Development Center.

I don't think many of us realized how a writers strike would have such an impact on our evenings at home after work. No new scripts were being written for our favorite teen dramas or any of the 7 Law & Orders. Conan, Leno and Letterman had no new material to quip about in their opening dialogs (which is odd, considering Conan used to be a writer himself....did he forget how?) We had to suffer through numerous "unscripted" reality shows probably put together at the last minute in network big whig brainstorming sessions, because there are no scripts for these shows, they are 100% real life and require no writing or plots. Uhhhh.....sure...right....okay then. (on a side note, does it seem like they are starting to run out of new ideas for these things? They really seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel lately)

Anyway.....it was horrible, many of us had to resort to actually turning the TV off and going outside to breathe...GASP....fresh air and get some exercise during those awful couple of months!!! We actually had to go and socialize with real-life families and neighbors instead of watching them on TV!! NOOOOOOO!!! Interacting with real living breathing people!! It was awful I tell you, a living nightmare.

All I can say is that I am glad the strike finally ended, new shows are starting to cycle their way back onto the networks and I can finally start reforming that spot on the couch that was once perfectly molded to my butt.

Do something and do it now!

I too am quite thankful for the return of some of my favorites! It's not been the same without Gossip Girl and Grey's Anatomy and the list goes on.

But on a scary note... and I'll probably get these stats wrong but... I heard in a speech at the Web 2.0 expo the other day that Americans watch something like 100 million hours of TV a year, which is the equivalent of building approx 2,000 Wikipedia sized projects. Waste time much???
