Keep the prom spirit alive!

Keep the prom spirit alive!

We at Seventeen have been talking about prom for a while now. The preparation for the Seventeen prom issue began in the fall, and the issue came out in late December. So, as you can imagine, the whole staff has been anticipating the news about how YOUR experience with the dress, date and dance went. We hope that each and every one of you has the perfect prom night!

Are you interested in keeping the wonderful prom spirit alive, even after the big night is over? We know of a great way to do that — and to help others! You can pass on your dress to another girl and make her dream night come true! There’s a really great new web site called donatemydress.org. It’s a directory of local dress drive organizations across the U.S. where you can donate or receive a special occasions dress.The site also has info on upcoming local events, a photo gallery, and other great ways to help out!

Seventeen encourages you to donate your dress, especially if you never plan to wear it again. Imagine how excited the girl receiving it will be (we bet it will be similar to the excitement you felt when you found it, and that’s an awesome feeling to share!)

Are you going to participate in this program? Let us know! Or, have you donated a dress before? Let us know how the experience made you feel!

I'm ashamed to say that even knowing of all of these great organizations that pass dresses on, mine are still stored away in the loft at my dad's house. I really should dig them out.

Prom season is in full swing in the DC area - for the last couple of weekends I've seen an abundance of limos and well-dressed teenagers filing in and out of the Chili's at the end of my block.

I'll readily admit that my brother's best friend took me to my junior prom. My brother and his friend were freshman in college and my brother was dating a girl in my class and wanted his friend to go. In a strange twist of events, my brother and the girl broke up before the prom, but his friend still took me. Aww.

Then my senior year I voluntarily went doe (girls don't go stag) and shared a limo with a group of friends - which was zero pressure and a lot of fun.

Now my little sister is a junior in high school, and I'm eagerly awaiting her hyped-up prom drama stories. Good times. Good times...

uhmmm, AM.....LOL!!!

@Robin, how much did Daddy pay for yours? You should donate it...

Great idea and great charity!

@RG - very funny!

I was recently on vacation in Scottsdale and saw tons of prom go-ers looking amazing for their big night out! I couldn't help but smile and reminisce...

Kudos to Seventeen Magazine for issuing this call to action to their loyal readers. This is an easy way for young women to give back and ensure more girls have a stellar night this prom season.
