I like music. Despite my apparent obsession with U2, I do actually listen to other music. And when this auction for Jimmy Buffett tickets, with 10% of the proceeds going to GlobalGiving, popped up in my email, I went to YouTube and started listening to Margaritaville.
Sometimes songs will remind me of experiences, places, people, or just a particular point in time. And there's no better example of that reminder than songs of summer.
I'm in no way ranking these songs (so don't freak out at me!), but these songs are distinctly summery to me.
Feel free to comment with your own musical summer reminders; I'd love to hear them!
5. Bananarama - Cruel Summer
4. Madonna - La Isla Bonita
3. U2 - Beautiful Day (had to have at least one reference)
2. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - Summertime
1. The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City

If I had a dollar for every time you had to thrown in a "reference"...I would be RICH! I'm just saying. But I like where you're going with this and now I have to go back and think about my top summer songs, ugh...need to book some time for myself ;-)

As far as summer music goes....I usually hate reggee, but there is something about the summer months that makes it okay.
And as odd as it sounds, every time I hear "You spin me Round" by Dead or Alive I have major summer flashbacks. "Summertime", as you mentioend, should be on everyone's list. Another band i recommend for summer is The English Beat.

@JD: I agree. Reggae is a lot to handle when you're landlocked or stuck in an office. But there's something fascinating about it when you're at the ocean or on an island or on a cruise ship. It's just natural.
