http://whatgives.com/post/2008/7/reverb-rocks Reverb rocks! Fedora-wearing Jason Mraz has had us smiling all summer since the release of his newest album ”We Sing. We Dance. We steal Things,” but he’s given us an even better reason to start singing his tune.

Jason’s “Music, Magic, Make Peace” tour that hit U.S. cities in April partnered with Reverb, a non-profit organization that helps you and your favorite musicians rock out at a completely “green” venue.

Avril Lvigne, Fall Out Boy, Kelly Clarkson and Panic at the Disco have also hopped on the bandwagon when it comes to eco-chic. Even John Mayer’s summer tour is on board with biodiesel-fueled tour buses and eco-friendly merchandise. Reverb also rounds up recycling from fans and helps to reduce the amount of trash that always seems to hang around - long after the groupies go home! They’ve already reached 4.6 million fans!

Go to Reverb’s Web site to watch a clip of their efforts on tour! Want to volunteer? You could help the environment while being serenaded by your favorite artists and go home with a t-shirt and goodie bag! Click here to find out how!

Check out seventeen.com to see how other celebs are going green! So who is your favorite eco-friendly artist? What do you think about volunteering with Reverb? Tell us below!

http://whatgives.com/post/2008/7/green-your-makeup 'Green' your makeup! A quick dash of makeup can rev up your look and brighten your mood, but a little goes a long way, environmentally-speaking. All those plastic lip gloss tubes, mascara wands and old, nasty blush brushes make up a percentage of landfill waste. Luckily, these cosmetic celebrities are taking a stand! Check out Seventeen's list of biodegradable beauty options:

1. Model Josie Maran is creating luxury with a conscience. Her makeup products from her collection, launched in 2007, contain ingredients such as natural jojoba oil and are housed in biodegradable packaging. Seventeen's favorite is the Plumping Lip Gloss, which uses marine collagen to pump up your pout. Check out her Web site!

2. Smashbox, an animal-cruelty free company, has created a collection called "Green Room" with environmentally-friendly bronzer and lip gloss! The products contain Moringa seed extract for healthy skin, and the packaging is biodegradable and recyclable! With every purchase of a Green Room product, a Moringa tree will be planted in a developing country for Trees for the Future. Find out more at smashbox.com!

3. CARGO Cosmetics scored a nomination for The Best of Sephora with its PlantLove Botanical Lipstick. The stick is made entirely from corn! The outer carton is made of flower paper embedded with real flower seeds! So when your color is gone, simply plant the tube and wait for flowers to grow. For more info, go to cargocosmetics.com!

So is your makeup bag 'green?' Do you think all-natural products give you just as great of a look as regular products? Give us your take!

http://whatgives.com/post/2008/6/save-water-with-these-5-tips Save water with these 5 tips! What’s the best beauty weapon? Water, au-natural! It’s no secret that H2O keeps your skin healthy and glowing and can even help maintain a healthy weight! So why waste it? Here are some tips on conserving the fountain of youth:

1. We know you need clean skinny jeans, but hold off running the washing machine ‘til you have a full load!
2. It’s good to eat your veggies, but scrub them with a vegetable brush in a bowl of water; don’t let the faucet run while you rinse.
3. Turn off the water when brushing your teeth. Faucets can leak two to three gallons per minute!
4. Everybody loves a loofah-licious, relaxing shower, but cut it short to relieve stress on the environment! You could conserve five to seven gallons per minute!
5. Don’t wait for a cold tap. Chill your drinking water in the fridge and even filter it with a Brita or Pur pitcher!

Check out Seventeen Green for more fun ways to save the environment!

http://whatgives.com/post/2008/5/what-are-your-2-cents What are your 2 cents?

The 2008 presidential election is a huge deal — even if you’re not old enough to vote. There are great opportunities for everyone (even those under the legal voting age of 18) to get involved. Seventeen encourages you to get involved with politics no matter how old you are, and we know the perfect place to do it!

We discovered this really cool Website called My2Cents , where you can state your opinion on everything from poverty to equal rights. Click on the “Get started” button and peek inside an issue that interests you. There, you’ll find pennies that, when scrolled over, tell you what other teens just like you are saying about those issues. And don’t forget to add your 2 cents!

What issues are important to you? Tell us about them now!

Plus, find out how you can make a difference in the election and win a trip to Hollywood at seventeen.com/declareyourself.

http://whatgives.com/post/2008/5/keep-the-prom-spirit-alive Keep the prom spirit alive!

We at Seventeen have been talking about prom for a while now. The preparation for the Seventeen prom issue began in the fall, and the issue came out in late December. So, as you can imagine, the whole staff has been anticipating the news about how YOUR experience with the dress, date and dance went. We hope that each and every one of you has the perfect prom night!

Are you interested in keeping the wonderful prom spirit alive, even after the big night is over? We know of a great way to do that — and to help others! You can pass on your dress to another girl and make her dream night come true! There’s a really great new web site called donatemydress.org. It’s a directory of local dress drive organizations across the U.S. where you can donate or receive a special occasions dress. The site also has info on upcoming local events, a photo gallery, and other great ways to help out!

Seventeen encourages you to donate your dress, especially if you never plan to wear it again. Imagine how excited the girl receiving it will be (we bet it will be similar to the excitement you felt when you found it, and that’s an awesome feeling to share!)

Are you going to participate in this program? Let us know! Or, have you donated a dress before? Let us know how the experience made you feel!

Get more prom info at seventeen.com.
